The Department of Psychology of Christ College was established in 1993 under the leadership of the principal Mr. S. M. Mohapatra, Dr. ShamitaMahapatra was appointed as lecturer and Dr. Laxmikanta Mishra as demonstrator. In 1993, the Department of Psychology started functioning with strength of 48 students at +2 level. A small room in the 'H' Block served as the Psychology Laboratory and was well equipped with all the required apparatus and test materials to cater to the needs of its students. Since then the department is functioning smoothly and adding feathers to the glory of the college by serving as an aid to produce more number of first class students in the Arts Stream. In 1998 a student of psychology Sumita Rout, secured 8th position in the Annual CHSE Examination.
Now the college has expanded its horizons and offers three years bachelors programme in psychology. The department of Psychology started functioning in the year 2014 with honours classes with strength of 16 students.Now the department is going strong with honours students. Among the first batch of students who passed out as graduates from the department SankhaMondal scored 83% and was the topper of his batch.
We are proud to possess a highly qualified staff which is totally dedicated and is always striving to perceive and resolve students queries so that the overall personality of the students can be groomed in such a manner that they passout as professionals.
For the betterment of students’ academic spirit and prosperity, the teaching module comprises lectures, tutorials and practicals. The methodology adopted in the classroom teaching is based on application of innovative strategies, comprehensive lectures, regular assignment and interaction between teachers and students.
Our department is striving towards greater heights with its team work and concerted efforts. It is the individual and collective contribution of each member in achieving this milestone with greater sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.
As I look ahead I can visualize that the college will grow in pursuit of higher teaching, research and set new academic standards.
